Live by the sword. Die by the Sword. (And rock in between)

2003-10-19 1:00 a.m.

I’m doing the hour thing. The ‘wow-that-was-so-cool-I’m-still-in-awe!’ thing. The thing that I haven’t done since the Placebo show.

I’m thinking, “Wow. Twenty-some hours ago, I was just starting the drive home from the absolute best concert I’ve ever attended.” Is that lame of me? Probably. But really. The night was one of the most fantastic ones of the year.

I left around 11 oclock. I had to be in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, by three, because that’s when Aaron was to get out of a tour day at the the university there. He was supposed to drive to the city with me, but a stroke of good luck for him, and bad luck for me, brought him there with his mom, and left me driving alone. Oh well. No big deal, except the part where I got lost. I asked for directions twice at the same gas station. Once I was in Lacrosse, though, I had no problem finding the venue and parallel parking. I wish I would’ve taken a picture of my parallel park job, because damn, it was good…

I was there an hour before Aaron met me. We meandered a bit. The city is so small, and boring, except for a few cool stores here and there. Mostly Aaron and I just hung out. Drinking cherry limeade and splitting a king sized Hershey bar with almonds. Humor. Friendship. Fun. Not giving a damn about calories, looks, other people. The kind of things being a teenager is all about.

And music. There is no better way to see your favourite bands than in a hole-in-the-wall venue with one of your closest friends, getting smashed in the front row, and losing your voice screaming with every lyric you know. Vaux. A Static Lullaby. My Chemical Romance… It’s my kind of bruising, sweaty, heart-pounding bliss.

Christensen. First band. Aaron and me: Front row. Lacrosse kids: very still, very quiet, very boring, very have-they-ever-been-to-a-show-before? We almost decided to circle pit, just to add excitement. Vaux. Aaron and me: front row, singing along to (nearly) every song, getting slightly pushed. Lacrosse kids: pushing. Some singing. And for A Static Lullaby and MCR? I was probably just one of a dozen people who lost their voice singing along, screaming into the mike, and getting large purple and red bruises the exact height of the Warehouse stage on my knees…

It was seriously the best I’ve ever seen them play. They ruled the stage. Plus, Demolition lovers. They played Demolition lovers!! Ahh… Afterward, Aaron and I talked to the band a little. Frank is so nifty. He asked Aaron and I how we were so tall, and suggested it was something in the water here. I was only extremely tall because of my boots, else I’d be 5’6’’, like him. So I told him that it was a good height, and many fantastic British rock stars are 5’6’’. I think he liked that. Ha! He also asked where my friend was (in reference to Amalia) I said we weren’t friends anymore and he said, “That’s cool. At least you’re here, right?!” with a smile. Everyone in that band is always so friendly, its amazing. Never leaves me without a grin.

And Gerard was sweet as always… I have a lovely picture of him drinking my coke in a fancy perfectly advertising way. It’s unique. I like it. Only I think he thought Aaron was my boyfriend, as he referred to him as 'my boy'. Easy mistake? It's happened before with other people. Why is it a guy and a girl cannot be out alone somewhere without it being assumed they're boyfriend and girlfriend? Not that I'm bothered. Its just amusingly odd that anyone'd assume I'm cool/skinny/pretty enough to have a boyfriend...

Anyway, suffice to say, the concert, my long weekend (Thursday and Friday off), my lack of homework, and Sarah’s (Aaron’s Girlfriend’s) visiting MN for a week, has made everything extra grand. Minus my failing grade on a stats test, and the weekend can be considered the best of the year. Hell, with the failing grade on my stats test, it’s still the best weekend of the year…
